In London, Sheehan Storms out of “Peace Mom” Play

The one-woman play Peace Mom, written by Nobel laureate Dario Fo and based on the recent life of Cindy Sheehan and her efforts to end the U.S. War in Iraq, debuted in London yesterday at the end of a daylong conference held by anti-war activists. Sheehan, touring in support of her new book, Not One More Mother’s Son, was in attendance.

What should have been a feel-good, celebratory moment for Sheehan and her posse of demonstrators, though, instead became an embarrassing situation when Sheehan stormed out of the play half way through, screaming that the production was “second rate” and demanding that someone “get Michael Moore on the phone, pronto.”

It quickly became apparent early in the evening that the “Peace Mom” was over-tired after a long day of interviews and protests.

Sheehan arrived at the theater with a cadre of fellow travelers. As she disembarked from her car with a bag of Chips Ahoy under her arm and her upper lip covered in crumbs, she yelled to the crowd, “Who wants to pull the Peace Mom’s finger?”

Sheehan waved to the gathered paparazzi and paused for pictures with the famed playright and his wife, Frances de la Tour, the actress in the play.

“Who the $#%! Is Frances de la Tour, and why should I give a damn?” Sheehan was heard hissing to a colleague as she moved into the theater. As they entered the theater Sheehan grabbed a young theater attendant and asked him where the bathroom was, saying “Mama Sheehan has to pee like a racehorse.”

Fo based the play on extracts from Sheehan’s letters to Bush. The show is made up of monologues delivered beneath large pictures, including images of Casey Sheehan and a tank in the Iraqi desert. But it was clear from the beginning that Sheehan was unhappy with the portrayal.

“WRONG, WRONG, WRONG,” she yelled at one point. “Who wrote this crap? Do you have any freakin idea what it’s like to sit in cowpoke Texas for an entire summer, sweating like a pig and living in a fart-filled tent with a bunch of hippy freaks who never had a job? If so, I’m not feeling it. Where’s the Peace Mom passion?”

As the theater grew quiet, Sheehan made her exit.

“Cathy, we’re out of here. Grab my Chips Ahoy. Let’s go to Spain. They feel my pain.”

I’m so in the wrong job… how does she get to travel so much? Who’s paying for it? Sign me up!

It’s being paid for with a new currency, Kira. It’s called Kindness and Peace. But that’s likely not familiar to someone as…practical…as you.

Did you see her comment yesterday that Bush ran from his unit in Vietnam? Man, she keeps me busy. I’m going to get fired if I keep blogging instead of working.

Has she traveled to Vietnam yet? Cuba?
I should apply to be her assistant… but then I’d have to give up all hygenic rituals and sacrifice many innocent brain cells.

You could make it big blogging! Check out Michelle Malkin - and she’s not even funny! ;-)

Kira- Thanks for that vote of confidence. I don’t know if you are email friendly, or not, Kira, but if you can, email me at potfry@aol.com. I have a top secret blogger question for you. Like, what do I do now?
