I do not think that I can adequately put into words just how disappointed I am at the Inhofe amendment of the new immigration bill that would effectively make English the “national language” of the United States.

As I said on the Senate floor, I feel that the notion of English as our national language is a case of racism at best, and at worst may be a sign that linguism is rearing it’s ugly head in this country.

Now some of you may be thinking that I am just pandering to the Spanish-speaking citizens that would be most affected by this bill. Others may believe that I am still upset that my crop yield was a bit low this year because of lower than expected rainfall that can directly be attributed to the global warming that has been created by soulless Republican corporations.

I can assure you that neither of these is the case. I am simply an average citizen with an affected grandfather act and an NPR-quality voice, that does not want to see good, hardworking voters of Hispanic descent poorly done by.

That is why I will be introducing a bill next week that would make soccer and Mexican food the national sport and foods respectively for this great and tolerant country of ours. If approved, the  “Harry Reid Fútbol y Chimichanga Fiesta” measure will be a great step toward rebuilding the ties that have been severely damaged by the callous and cruel Inhofe amendment.
