Landrieu Draws Ire Of TNOYF Editor

When asked about the federal response with regard to evacuation of Hurricane Katrina survivors during an interview with Chris Wallace on this week’s edition of Fox News Sunday, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) responded “… this (the Bush) administration did not believe in mass transit. They (still talking about the Bush administration) won’t even get people to work on a sunny day…”

Editor’s Note: The preceding quote from Mary Landrieu is real. Seriously. It’s not satire. At all. She was not laughing, smirking or winking when she said it. Even a little bit. Which causes a dilemma for our staff, one that we have encountered before. The painful blurring of the line between satirical statements and liberal ones.

We here at TNOYF are smart enough to read between the lines on this one: Landrieu is gunning for our jobs.

What to do? The administration “won’t even get people to work on a sunny day?” We take great pride in the extensive satirical training that our staff receives, but even our best writer on his best day would be hard-pressed to top this gem.

But two can play at this game. We have examined our options and have narrowed them down to 3 alternatives:

1. Challenge Landrieu to a “satire-off” to see once and for all who is king of the proverbial hill.

Upside- If successful, this approach would satisfy the inner machismo that is present in all satirists.

Downside- We are hopelessly outgunned against the satirically superior Landrieu.

2. Engage in character assassination against Landrieu.

Upside- Potential for enormous fun.

Downside- By utilizing Democratic tactics we take the risk of being branded “liberals”, a chance we are unwilling to take.

3. Order like a gazillion pizzas to Landrieu’s house.

Upside- Really, really funny.

Downside- Not sure if her house floated away or not.

As of this writing we have yet to determine the course of action we intend to take. Clearly each option has it’s own merits as well as pitfalls. As we are a bit shell-shocked at the moment, we are open to entertaining additional suggestions.

I thought she was saying that Mayor Nagin couldn’t even get the transit authority drivers to work “on a sunny day” (much less with a hurricane approaching)
