Vice President Dick Cheney visited President Pervez Musharraf yesterday to press the U.S. case for Pakistan taking action against Taliban and Al Qaeda forces that are operating within that country. Cheney asserted that those Islamofascist organizations are using the relative safety of Pakistan as a staging ground from which to launch attacks into neighboring Afghanistan.

Immediately after his visit with Musharraf, the Vice President visited Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. While he met with officials, a suicide bomber attacked the base killing ten people and essentially proving Cheney’s point.

The Taliban took credit for the attack saying they knew Cheney would be visiting the base. Taliban spokesman Mullah Hayat Khan told a reporter, “We wanted to target… Cheney.”

We here at TNOYF applaud the Taliban’s honesty, but question their judgment in this instance. The bombing will put enormous pressure on Musharraf to act and also paves the way for a U.S. attack into Pakistan.
